Conversations Continue beyond Net Impact’s Small Dinner Series

Nearly 10 diverse Net Impact-ers gathered at Green Table in Chelsea Market last August to discuss the “Politics of Food.” Since that Small Dinner Series event, the conversation hasn’t quit–attendees continue to share information and events related to the evening’s discussion. In that spirit, I thought I’d pass along a couple here:

Food Matters: An Evening With Mark Bittman

Date: January 24, 2009
Time: 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Cost: FREE!

Join Whole Foods Bowery on Saturday, January 24th, for a cooking demonstration and book signing with Mark Bittman, author of the highly-acclaimed New York Times column The Minimalist, as he shares from his new book Food Matters. Bittman demystifies buzzwords like “organic,” “sustainable,” and “local” and offers straightforward, budget-conscious advice that will help you make small changes that will shrink your carbon footprint — and your waistline.

Space/seating is limited and advanced registration is suggested. Click HERE to reserve your space and/or book. Mark Bittman will only sign copies of Food Matters purchased at Whole Foods Market. Proof of purchase required. Books will be available for purchase at the event or at any Whole Foods Market.

Event is scheduled to run for approximately 75 minutes, including 30 min presentation and 45 min book signing.

Brooklyn Food Conference: Local Action for Global Change

Location: John Jay High School and PS 321, 7th Avenue, Park Slope
Cost: FREE!

The Brooklyn Food Conference is a nonprofit seeking to bring together a uniquely broad and diverse community of activists and citizens to discuss and learn more about the critical food issues of our time and what role we as neighbors can play to address them. We will create a Brooklyn base for the food movement, advocating for Food Democracy in our neighborhood and everywhere in the world. Food Democracy is here defined as a just, sustainable, healthy and delicious food system.
